The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And he has failed who instills it [with corruption]. 10 Thamud denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the apostle of Allah said unto them: beware of the she-camel of Allah and her drink. 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
