The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the mount. 1 And the Book written 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
