The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
