The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
