۞ AND, INDEED, long before [the time of Moses] We vouchsafed unto Abraham his consciousness of what is right; and We were aware of [what moved] him 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said: Nay! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said: "Burn him and help your aliha (gods), if you will be doing." 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
