The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
