The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen one who prevents 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
