The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Whenever they see a miracle, they turn away from it and say, "This is just a powerful magic". 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ Before them Noah's people also gave the lie (to his Message). They rejected Our servant as a liar, saying: “He is a madman”; and he was rebuffed. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 for, how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
