The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And We have made your sleep as a rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
