He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
