Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
