The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. 34 Who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. Now what do you advise?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 "And bring up to thee all (our) sorcerers well-versed." 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 And it was said to the people, “Have you (also) gathered?” 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers (in religion) if they win?" 40 And when the magicians arrived, they said to Pharaoh, "Is there indeed for us a reward if we are the predominant?" 41 He replied, "Certainly, in that case you will join my inner circle." 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Then Moses threw his staff, and at once it devoured what they falsified. 45 Then the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 46 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds: 47 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 48 The Pharaoh said, "You believed without my permission? He seems to be your chief who has taught you magic. But you will soon know (the result of what you have done). I shall certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you all together." 49 They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord, 50 "Verily! We really hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we are the first of the believers [in Musa (Moses) and in the Monotheism which he has brought from Allah]." 51
