The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 159
