The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
