Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
