(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
