And the believer said, “O my people! Follow me, I shall show you the way of righteousness.” 38 My people, the life of this world is ephemeral, whereas the Hereafter, that is the permanent abode. 39 Whosoever does an evil deed will be requited only with the like of it; and whosoever acts righteously and has attained to faith -- be he a male or a female -- they shall enter Paradise and be provided sustenance beyond all reckoning. 40 ۞ O my people, what is wrong with me that I am calling you to preservation, while you invite me to the Fire! 41 You call me to disbelieve in God and to believe other things equal to Him about which I have no knowledge. I call you to the Majestic and All-forgiving One. 42 "No doubt you call me to (worship) one who cannot grant (me) my request (or respond to my invocation) in this world or in the Hereafter. And our return will be to Allah, and Al-Musrifun (i.e. polytheists and arrogants, those who commit great sins, the transgressors of Allah's set limits)! They shall be the dwellers of the Fire! 43 And anon ye shall remember that which I am telling you. And I confide my affair unto God; verily God is the Beholder of His bondmen. 44 So Allah protected him from the evil (consequences) of what they planned, and the most evil punishment overtook Firon's people: 45 The Fire; they are exposed to it morning and evening; and on the day when the Hour upriseth (it is said): Cause Pharaoh's folk to enter the most awful doom. 46 And consider what time they will wrangle together in the Fire, and the oppressed will say unto those who were stiff-necked: verily we have been unto you a following, are ye going to avail us against a portion of the Fire? 47 Those who were proud shall say: Surely we are all in it: surely Allah has judged between the servants. 48 And those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Gehenna (Hell): 'Call your Lord to lessen our punishment for one day' 49 They will say: "Did there not come to you your messengers with Clear Signs?" They will say, "Yes". They will reply, "Then pray (as ye like)! But the prayer of those without Faith is nothing but (futile wandering) in (mazes of) error!" 50
