The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
