Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Sure Reality! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: 4 The Thamuds were destroyed by a violent blast of sound. 5 And as to Ad, they were destroyed by a roaring, violent blast. 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 and dost thou now see any remnant of them? 8 And there was Pharaoh, too, and [many of] those who lived before him, and the cities that were overthrown - [all of them] indulged in sin upon sin 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment. 10 Indeed when the water swelled up, We boarded you onto the ship. 11 That We might make it a remembrance for you, and the keen ear (person) may (hear and) understand it. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 The sky will cleave asunder on that day and fall to pieces. 16 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. 17 That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 in a lofty Garden 22 with its fruits within easy reach. 23 Such people will be told, "Eat and drink with pleasure as the reward for what you did in the past". 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 And knew not what my reckoning! 26 I wish death had put an end to me. 27 My wealth has availed me nothing: 28 and my authority has vanished.” 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 and then roast him in Hell, 31 “Then bind him inside a chain which is seventy arm-lengths.” 32 "This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. 33 and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: 34 and so, no friend has here today, 35 neither any food saving foul pus, 36 Which none but the hellish eat." 37
