He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
