Have you seen him who turns his back, 33 and gives a little, grudgingly? 34 Hath he knowledge of the Unseen so that he seeth? 35 Or has he not been told of what is in the scrolls of Moses, 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no laden one shall bear another's load, 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 That (the fruit of) his striving will soon come in sight: 40 Then he will be recompensed for it with the fullest recompense 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 and that He it is Who causes people to laugh and to cry, 43 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; 44 And that He (Allah) creates the pairs, male and female, 45 From a sperm-drop when it is emitted 46 and that upon Him is the second creation 47 And that it is He Who enricheth and preserveth property. 48 And that He it is Who is the Lord of Sirius; 49 that He it is Who destroyed the ancient 'Ad, 50 And Thamud, and did not leave them, 51 Like the people of Noah before them, who were surely oppressors and rebellious; 52 And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah). 53 So that they were covered over by what they were covered over. 54 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 that [Last Hour] which is so near draws ever nearer, 57 and none but Allah can avert it. 58 So are you surprised at this fact? 59 Why do you laugh rather than weep? 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 So fall you down in prostration to Allah, and worship Him (Alone). ۩ 62
