The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are clothed! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
