The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan near of kin, 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
