۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, 'Bring him before the people's eyes; haply they shall bear witness.' 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He answered: "Nay, it was this one, the biggest of them, that did it: but ask them [yourselves] - provided they can speak!" 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They said: burn him, and succour your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 and whereas they sought to do evil unto him, We caused them to suffer the greatest loss: 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
