The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
