Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will break apart therefrom; ever is His promise fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
