Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 And the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
