The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We carried him upon a thing of planks and nails, 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished! 22
