He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
