Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
