The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 And those who disbelieve Our signs - they are the fellows of the lefthand. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
