The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And extended shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
