Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 The night as it advances, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
