A'ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, "Do you not fear?" 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 "Therefore fear Allah and obey me." 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 "And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?" 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
