Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HaMeem 1 By the Clear Book 2 that We sent down during a Blessed Night. We are ever warning. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
