He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
