The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day in splendour 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
