Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 A curse shall be on you till the Day of Recompense' 35 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day they (the dead) will be resurrected." 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 till the Day the time whereof is known [to Me alone]." 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 Allah said: this is the path leading unto Me straight. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
