The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
