The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 Their eyes cast down, going forth from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
