The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the heaven and the night-comer 1 And what shall teach thee what is the night-star? 2 It is the star shining brightly. 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 Let man reflect on what he was created from. 5 He is created from a water dripping, 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Now, verily, He [who thus creates man in the first instance] is well able to bring him back [to life] 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement, 13 and it is certainly not a jest. 14 They are devising guile, 15 And I plot a plot (against them). 16 So leave the unbelievers to themselves; respite them awhile. 17
