Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
