In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 This is the story of the blessing of your Lord to His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called to his Lord a private supplication. 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 'O Zachariah, We give thee good tidings of a boy, whose name is John. No namesake have We given him aforetime.' 7 He said, 'O my Lord, how shall I have a son, seeing my wife is barren, and I have attained to the declining of old age?' 8 He said: So shall it be, your Lord says: It is easy to Me, and indeed I created you before, when you were nothing. 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 O Yahya! take hold of the Book with strength, and We granted him wisdom while yet a child 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
