And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They answered: "No; but we found our forefathers doing so." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 He Who feedeth me and giveth me to drink. 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 and place me amongst the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 and no sincere friend. 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
