The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Roman Empire has been defeated- 2 in the nearer part of the land; and, after their vanquishing, they shall be the victors 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 with the help of God. He helps whom He pleases: He is the Mighty, and the Merciful. 5 (This is) Allah's promise! Allah will not fail His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world (i.e. the matters of their livelihood, like irrigating or sowing or reaping, etc.), and they are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect within themselves: Allah did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them two but with truth, and (for) an appointed term? And most surely most of the people are deniers of the meeting of their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land to see how terrible was the end of the people who lived before them. The people who lived before them were stronger than them in might, in tilling, and in developing the earth. Our Messengers came to them with clear miracles. God did not do an injustice to them but they wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them. 10
