A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) proclaim the Purity of the name of your Lord, the Greatest. 74
