The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
