Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 The multiple and the one, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter into My garden. 30
