Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 "And truly, I seek refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me (or call me a sorcerer or kill me). 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Thus it was. And [then] We made another people heirs [to what they had left,] 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
