The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
